Feeling the January Blues? 💙
Ask yourself: “What’s one thing I can do today to be kind to myself?”

Blue Monday – What Is It and How Can We Lighten the Load?
Enter Blue Monday – often labelled the saddest day of the year.
But why is this Monday so blue? And more importantly, what can we do to brighten it?
Let’s unpack the history and offer some gentle ways to lift the mood.
The History of Blue Monday
In 2005, a psychologist coined the term Blue Monday after calculating the “most depressing day” based on:
Post-holiday debts 🛒
Cold, grey weather 🌧️
Lack of motivation 😞
Broken New Year’s resolutions 📆
While the science behind it isn’t bulletproof, the feeling is real. January can feel heavy – and acknowledging that is the first step to lightening the load.
How to Shift the Blues
Here’s the good news – you don’t have to stay stuck. Blue Monday is a reminder to check in with yourself.
Simple things can make a big difference to your mental and physical well-being:
Move your body (gently). A 20-minute walk can boost mood and circulation.
Stay connected. Call a friend, book a catch-up, or simply share how you’re feeling.
Hydrate and eat well. Blood sugar dips affect more than energy – they hit mood too.
Be kind to yourself. Small acts of self-compassion go a long way.
You’re not supposed to run at full speed all year.
What Does Self-Care Look Like for You?
Self-care isn’t just baths and candles (though those are great too). It’s the small, daily things that keep you grounded.
Do you take 5 minutes to stretch in the morning?
Are you saying yes to rest as much as activity?
How often do you check in with how your body feels – really feels?
This week, ask yourself:
“What’s one thing I can do today to be kind to myself?”
It could be as simple as booking that appointment, sleeping in a little longer, or saying no when you need to.
